Tapio Saarinen found his round tail Spider in Pietarsaari Finland. The car was in a carage of Reijo Tamminen, a well-known finnish Alfa collector. It was love at first sight says Tapio, allthough the car was discoloured and its technique functioned not so well.
The car came out from the factory line in October 1969, it was ment to be delivered to USA, but was not do the pollution regulations tihgtening at just that time. Alfa did change carburators to Spica's mechanical fuel injection system of 800 Spiders, to meet the new regulations, but for some reason this car was not exported to USA, instead it went to Frankfurt Germany. There a finnish Tom Adams bought it and imported the car to Finland. Mr. Adams used the car until year 1978, after that the history of the car is a bit unknown.
It have had engine changed in Pori before 1981, when Reijo Tamminen bought the car and added into his collection. Tapio bought the car from Reijo Tamminen in September 2001 and immediately started to renovate it. He wanted to have it in its original shape with original engine, Reijo Tamminen helped him to locate the engine, it was in a good shape, and the cause of engine change was discovered also, it had had a choked fuel filter, a good example of Alfa skills in Pori on the late 70's!
Tapio renovated the car over one year and in the summer 2003 he started to use it regurarly. Picture taken at a club meeting in Hanko 2003. |
