| Readers of the respected German motoring magazine, Auto Motor und Sport, have chosen the Alfa Romeo 147 and Alfa Romeo 156 as the best imported cars in their respective classes, with the 147 capturing nearly 30 per cent of the votes.
Auto Motor und Sport is a true heavy weight amongst motoring titles, with a weekly readership that places it amongst the top titles of any sort in Germany. In its 29th year of presenting its annual awards, more than 100,000 people cast their votes from across Germany, choosing their favourite cars based on their ownership experience and the features they look for in a car.
"This is a ringing endorsement of the Alfa Romeo 147 and 156 from a country that is probably only second to Italy for their love of performance cars," says Chris Burger, General Manager for Alfa Romeo in New Zealand. "It is further confirmation - as if it was needed - that the Alfa 156 and 147 offer a level of unique style and driving excitement that their rivals can only dream about. These cars launched Alfa into the 21st century and they have now taken their place as key models in the glorious history of Alfa Romeo."
"Both the Alfa Romeo 156 and 147 started their lives by winning the European Car of the Year award and have gone on to amass more awards than any other Alfa Romeo car, while also boasting sales that place them amongst the most successful Alfa Romeo models of all time," says Mr Burger. "The fact that both cars are still winning awards so far into their lives is proof that both cars enjoy a level of style that is timeless and that their performance is still clearly amongst the best."
